February's Featured Designer~Leann Duncan

ABOUT LEANN

I am married to my wonderful husband who is very supportive of my craft & work. We have 3 kids & 3 grandkids. I have been scrapbooking for 10 years. It was actually my husband who said - "you should sell your scrapbook pages on Ebay". That was 10 years ago now. A friend suggested I try paper piecing. My response was what's that? I had no idea then where that would lead. I still have the pictures of those first pieces I made. (Oh they are sad! LOL!) I go back & look at them sometimes to see how far my craft has developed over the years. It just takes finding your niche & something you love to do. I love nothing more than to take a pattern & totally make something different than what it was intended for. It's like a challenge to me. Right now, I sell on Ebay, I am on the Little Scraps of Heaven Designs Design Team & my paper piecings are now being sold in my local scrapbook store. I feel so blessed to be able to stay at home & do what I love most for a living!

Hugs to you!
Leann :)

This is one of my first mini albums I created. I hope to make more. I have been wanting to do this for a while, the thing is, I am wondering why! I don't really have any need for these, they just looked like fun to make and I love seeing all the ideas online of mini albums. I saw this type of album a couple months ago (I thought on Stampin' Connection through Stampin' Up, but when I went back to find it, I couldn't). There are quite a few tutorial videos on YouTube on mini albums though. This one is a toilet paper roll mini album. (I thought that sounded a little weird and not sure if that is what I would want to call it.) I have seen these made several different ways. Some were covered with paper and others were painted. I used paint for this one, but not sure if I like the cover because you can see the line going down it and it looks too much like a toilet paper roll! Oh well, here are some of the things I used to make this album. I love the little pockets and all the pull out tags and now that I have my fun little photo printer and can print small photos, these might be fun.

Valentine Pocket Book

I finished up this little pocket/tag book today that will be an upcoming class that will be held at Paper Studio in February. Pretty basic all around and I repeated the design from my Christmas book and kept it pretty simple. I thought it could make for a nice little home for little love notes, coupons, favorite quotes, or photos. You could even insert little gift cards for coffee, latte's or special treats into the pockets for your loved one.

I'll be sure to share the dates that the class will be offered here once I know them

10 Things I Love About You Mini Book Tutorial

Hello Everyone, I wanted to share this tutorial with you. If you want to know more about the designer and other services, page kits or classes they may offer please visit their blog, store or web site. Enjoy!

http://www.scrapbook-crazy.com/10-things-i-love-about-you.html

A '10 things I love about you' themed mini album would make a gift to give to that special person in your life whether it be your partner, your child or a friend. It can be as deeply heartfelt or as lighthearted as you want it to be.

As the title suggests this theme requires that you list the 10 reasons you love your partner. Be specific with the reasons you chose and highlight the feelings and thoughts that they inspire in you. Remember it is better to say "I love that feel like I'm the only person in the world when I am around you" rather than "I love the way you make me feel"

Think about the following to get you started on your "10 things I love about you" list:

  • Habits
  • The little things they do for you: in the morning, when you feel down, for your family
  • Things they say: favourite sayings
  • Items that remind you of them: the cap they always wear, that leather jacket he won't get rid of, coffee cup
  • Behavior
  • Your five senses
  • Qualities
  • Facial features: smile, dimples etc.

Baby specific stuff

  • Body parts - Cheeks, chubby thighs etc.
  • Smile
  • Baby Talk
  • laugh, giggle, cry

Once you have completed your list then scrap a page for each reason. Select some photos of your subject for your mini book. If you have chosen particular items that you love about your subject then take pictures of those items to add into your pages.

Have fun

Baby Shoe Tutorial w/pattern

Hello Everyone, I wanted to share this tutorial with you. If you want to know more about the designer and other services, page kits or classes they may offer please visit their blog, store or web site. Enjoy!

Around this time every year, either you or someone you know will be hosting a baby shower. And one of the most popular shower favor boxes is the baby shoe. Did you know that you can get this item pre-cut for you? Save the time of cutting it out of a template and use a die cut. Then you can spend all that extra time on shopping for the goodies to put in the favor box.

Supplies:

1 die cut baby shoe containing two soles and one upper shoe,
adhesive - I used Killer Red Tape from Creative Cuts and More, and scissors

Baby_shoe_tutorial_i

Basic Step by Step Assembely Instructions:

Step 1.

Begin by placing small strips of adhesive to the tabs on the upper section of the die cut on the outside.

Baby_shoe_tutorial_ii

Step 2.

Gently fold all tabs to the back at the crease.

Baby_shoe_tutorial_iii

Step 3.

If using Killer Red Tape, or similar product, remove the red backing from the only tab that is on the end of the die cut and not in line with the remaining tabs. Then wrap the die cut around until both ends meet up at this tab. Once this is done, the die cut should form an eliptical shape and press to secure in place.

Baby_shoe_tutorial_iv

Step 4.

If you lay the two soles so that one is resting atop of the other, you will notice that one is slightly smaller than the other. You want to take the smaller of the two soles and slip it into the shoe so that it is resting on the tabs. If using one sided card stock, be sure that the patterened side is facing up and not towards the bottom of the shoe.

Baby_shoe_tutorial_v

Baby_shoe_tutorial_vi

Step 5.

Next you will want to remove the remaining bits of red backing from your Killer Red Tape.

Baby_shoe_tutorial_vii

Then place the bottom sole upon the longest tab which is on the opposite side of the seam. * Be sure that the pattern is now facing out so that when the shoe is finished you see the pattern or color of the paper used.

Baby_shoe_tutorial_iix

Now you can finish securing the bottom sole to the remaining tabs. Be sure to press firmly in place from both the inside and outside of the baby shoe.

Baby_shoe_tutorial_ix

Step 7.

Congratulations! You now have a finished baby shoe. Embellish and enjoy. Have fun with it!
